Prompt fission neutron spectra

Conference · · Natl. Bur. Stand. (U.S.), Spec. Publ.; (United States)

Recent measurements of the spectra of prompt neutrons emitted from neutron-induced fission in /sup 235/U and /sup 239/Pu are reviewed. Results are discussed in terms of departures of the data from a simple Watt representation. An evaluation of the neutron spectrum from neutron-induced fission in /sup 235/U and spontaneous fission in /sup 252/Cf, made by NBS in 1975, is also reviewed. Recent measurements on the fission spectra of /sup 235/U and /sup 239/Pu seem to indicate a harder energy spectrum than indicated by the earlier data available for the NBS evaluation. Posible reasons for this trend in the experimental data are discussed. 7 figures, 1 table.
