The effects of acids on the integrity of gravels and proppants should be considered in acid treatments. This paper reports on the influence of acid type and concentration, exposure duration, presence of corrosion inhibitor, and formation temperature on the acid sclubility of Heart of Texas and Ottawa Sands, sintered bauxite, and low-density and intermediate-density bauxites. The effect of the acids on the mechanical strength, bulk volume and size distribution of the solids was determined. Acid dissolution mechanisms were also proposed.
