Application of monitor regulation

Conference · · Proc. Int. Sch. Hydrocarbon Meas.; (United States)

Monitoring as an overpressure protection method has several advantages. It provides overpressure protection by containment of the gas, it can simplify station design and maintenance since only one style of pressure control equipment is used, those being regulators. The amount of overpressure can be minimized with pilot operated monitors. Monitors can be less costly than large relief valves when large capacities are involved. The monitoring principle can be applied to control valves on transmission lines. The purpose of this paper is to provide a review on the application of monitor regulators as a method of providing overpressure protection. Advantages and disadvantages of monitors will be evaluated and engineering guidelines discussed.
