Poisson-distributed cluster models for multiparticle production

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. D; (United States)
The high-energy multiplicity distributions arising from Poisson-distributed cluster models, a class of models which includes the negative-binomial distribution, are studied. It is shown that a family of different cluster models can give rise to the same overall distribution. Inequalities for the moments of the multiplicity distributions arising in cluster models are obtained, and it is found that available high-energy data respect, and come close to saturating, these inequalities. An example of a cluster model is presented in which the clusters decay according to a geometric (Bose-Einstein) distribution; it is found to give reasonable agreement with measured distributions.
