The rate constants of dehydration of the 1,2-dihydroxyethyl radical at different solution pH and of its adsorption on the surface were estimated by measuring the photoemission currents in ethylene glycol-containing N/sub 2/O solutions. It was shown that hydroxymethyl radicals are formed together with formylmethyl radicals during decomposition of the dihydroxyethyl radical in the solution. The rate constant of ethylene glycol dehydrogenation and the yields of the resulting radicals were determined. The reaction mechanism during electron emission in anhydrous ethylene glycol was discussed.
