Development status of a regenerative fuel cell system for orbital operation

Conference · · Proc., Intersoc. Energy Convers. Eng. Conf.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5159108
Mission studies conducted by NASA for future long-term orbital operations have indicated the need for substantial increases in power level to 500 kW in low-earth orbital energy storage facilities by the mid-to-late 1980's. The H/sub 2//O/sub 2/ regenerative fuel cell/photovoltaic system offers a feasible approach to meet this need. The objectives of the state-of-the-art assessment were to determine the status of cell technology and to establish the technological advancements required to meet the orbital energy storage system applications. 6 refs.
