Radiative transfer in anisotropically scattering nonplanar media

Journal Article · · AIAA J.; (United States)
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2514/3.7796· OSTI ID:5156989
The effects of anisotropic scattering in one-dimensional cylindrical and spherical geometries is demonstrated within a P(3) spherical harmonics method framework, by which the angular distribution of the radiation intensity is expressed in a series of associated Legendre polynomials. The series is truncated after N terms (P/N/ approximation), and the coefficients are expressed in terms of the moments of intensity. Anisotropic scattering effects are shown to follow the same trends as the isotropic scattering cases, becoming insignificant toward the outer wall.
