Pelletization and roll encapsulation of thermal energy storage materials

Seven phase change materials (PCMs) including inorganic salt hydrates and wax with melting points in the range suitable for either absorption cooling (85/sup 0/C and above), active heating (35-60/sup 0/C), or passive space conditioning (20-30/sup 0/C) applications have been pressed into pellets about 12mm in diameter and then encapsulated with latex coating materials by a roll coating process. The objective of this effort is the development of reliable and cost effective PCMs. 7 refs.
