Responding to a critique of their earlier work by Peterson, the authors concede that some survey respondents were confused about the availability of state credits for solar space and water heaters. They point out that their survey addressed awareness of only the federal income tax credits. They also point out that probably less than 10% of solar installations in place for the 1981 survey were made before the tax credit became available, and that the elimination of the state credit awareness question in a 1983 reissue of the survey may have reduced confusion without providing clarification of the relationship of state and federal credits to investment. 4 references.
