Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5155667
The Tooele Army Depot site is on the National Priorities List. The Tooele Army Depot was established in April 1942 and now is one of the major ammunition storage and equipment maintenance installations in the United States. Industrial operations, munitions demolition, and testing have occurred on-site. On-site contamination consists of trinitrotoluene (TNT) in pond sediment; polychlorinated biphenyl in soil; and arsenic, chloroform, toluene, nitrates/nitrites, and sodium in ground water. Pesticides and herbicides reportedly have been used throughout the facility. Off-site contamination in any environmental media has not been reported to date. The site is considered to be of potential public health concern due to the risk to human health caused by the possibility of exposure to hazardous substances via contaminated ground water.
