Energy conservation through utilization of mechanical energy storage

Flywheel-hybrid vehicles have been proposed as a means for improving vehicle efficiencies. Such vehicles use a flywheel as a buffer between engine and road load. This decoupling allows the engine to be run at higher efficiencies and also allows recovery of brake energy. The result is significant improvements in both performance and economy. 3 refs.
