Cathodic protection (CP) is a proven technology for controlling corrosion on the bottoms of aboveground storage tanks. Various options for CP of the external surfaces of tank bottoms that are in contact with sand pads or native soil are discussed. Advanced application techniques are described for existing tanks, new construction with secondary containment, and double-bottom tanks.
