Performance of fuel feeding rotary valves

During the initial operation up to and including Test Series 1 at the Grimethorpe Experimental Pressurised Fluidised Bed Combustion Facility, a critical problem was maintaining stable fuel flow and resultant temperature stability. Rotary valves were installed in the fuel feed system after the completion of Test Series 1 for operation during the Hot Commissioning Tests in preparation for Test Series 2. The report outlines the successful operational history of the rotary valves up to the end of 1982. Details of the valve design and control system are given as well as a description of the modifications made to the valves following operational experience gained during the Hot Commissioning Tests.
