Methane in Colorado's minable coal beds - an overlooked energy source

Conference · · Resour. Ser. - Colo. Geol. Surv.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5149318
The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission funded a joint project with the Colorado Geological Survey to study the feasibility of degasifying Colorado's coal beds ahead of mining. A promising method is the draining of methane by means of vertical, horizontal, or directional degasification holes from the coal prior to mining and the gob after mining. Developing methane as an alternative energy source involves determining the geologic, mining, and economic controls on a potential degasification site. 1 ref.
