The suspected but still unconfirmed cancer risk due to fine ash emitted from coal-fired power plants plus the Dept. of Energy's stepped up plans for more coal-fired power generation make fine particulate emissions an increasingly severe problem. The possibility of increasingly stringent emission regulations, and the collection efficiency and economics of bag house filters (99.92% fine ash collection efficiency of Nucla station in Colorado) for meeting such pollution regulations are discussed.
