This chapter provides a description of the Babcock and Wilcox Company's (B and W) approach to the reactor vessel surveillance program (RVSP) for the first eight Oconee class plants. In general, the approach follows the basic requirements as defined by the various regulatory rules and standards. Emphasis is placed on the specific contents of the B and W RVSP, which are described in detail, and the results of a particular program, Duke Power Co., Oconee Nuclear Station, Unit 1, as a specific example of results from a B and W-designed program. In conclusion, a discussion of the directions and requirements must be considered in future programs to implement technological advances in fracture toughness testing which develop from the experience of the ongoing programs.
