Fracture detection using circumferential acoustic logs

Journal Article · · Energy Sources (N.Y.); (United States)
The Circumferential Acoustilog (CAL) is an excellent method for determining (1) vertical or near-vertical open fracture systems which intersect a wellbore; (2) the directional, lateral, subsurface, trend of the detected fracture system; (3) the direction of regional stress patterns. A North American field example compares potential fracture identification based on whole core analysis, conventional acoustic (sonic) log responses, and the Circumferential Acoustic log.
