We have made interferometer maps of CO(1--0) emission from NGC 7027. These maps show that the neutral gas has a flattened distribution, which is constraining the development of the ionized nebula contained within it. We have detected for the first time anomalous high-velocity CO emission. This emission originates in a layer of shocked, neutral gas surrounding the expanding H II region. From calculations of the shock parameters, we estimate a total mass for the gas cloud of 2d/sup 5/2/ M/sub sun/ and a mass loss rate of 1.1 x 10/sup -3/d/sup 3/2/ M/sub sun/ yr/sup -1/, where d is the distance to NGC 7027 in kpc.
