Method for installing a blast joint

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5146269
A method for installing a blast joint of substantial length in a well bore, is described comprising: (a) mounting erosion resistant rings about at least two tubular members; (b) connecting a cross-over connector to the second tubular member, the cross-over connector providing a shoulder for supporting the erosion resistant rings on the second tubular member; (c) suspending the first tubular member above the well bore; (d) connecting the first tubular member to a pipe string extending into the well bore; (e) lowering the first tubular member into the well bore and supporting the first tubular member into the well bore and supporting the first tubular member on a support base, one end of the first tubular member extending above the support base for connection to the second tubular member; (f) suspending the second tubular member above the first tubular member; (g) connecting the second tubular member to the first tubular member; (h) sliding an adjustable ring assembly supported about the erosion resistant rings on the second tubular member to a position enclosing the cross-over connector; (i) lifting the two tubular members above the support base and opening the support base permitting the two tubular member to descend into the well bore; j) closing the support base and suspending the tubular members from the support base for connection to a tubing joint of the drill string; and (k) lowering the two tubular members into the well bore to a specified depth in the well bore.
