Data compiled for Electrical World's 74th Annual Survey represents power generation in all sectors--investor-owned systems, Federal agencies, rural cooperatives, and municipal systems, including states, public power districts, and other publicly owned utilities. Data for Canadian utilities are also included. Respondents operate 95.6% of total U.S. generating capacity, and serve 86.0% of all U.S. electric customers. Canadian data are not as extensive, but represent all major utilities. The first section presents a summary of U.S. economic data, including GNP, capital investment, consumer spending, housing information, unemployment, and inflation. Specific electric utility industry data compiled are capital expenditures, transmission and distribution construction, capability, maintenance, sales, and financial. Separate data for rural cooperatives are compiled. (MCW)
