Uniform design and evaluation guidelines have been developed for protection against natural phenomena hazards for facilities at DOE sites throughout the United States. The guidelines apply to design of new facilities and to evaluation, modification, or upgrade of existing facilities. The goal of the guidelines is to assure that DOE facilities are constructed to safely withstand the effects of natural phenomena such as earthquakes, extreme winds, and flooding. 85 refs., 11 figs., 18 tabs.
