In a country such as Singapore where the wind is less severe, natural wind can be utilised for the ventilation and comfort in residential buildings. This paper deals with an investigation of wind-generated natural ventilation of a seven-storey apartment block situated in the west district in the Republic of Singapore, by model test in a wind tunnel. A 1/40 scale model of the fullsize apartment block was prepared and was tested in the 2 m x 1 m working section of the National University of Singapore wind tunnel for various wind directions. The velocity coefficient method of estimating natural ventilation was used. It was found that the most favourable natural ventilation condition was when the wind direction was 45/sup 0/ to transverse axis of the apartment block, with its existing fenestration. The next favourable condition was obtained when the wind direction was at 135/sup 0/ to the transverse axis of the apartment block.
