Water assessment report on Cathedral Bluffs Shale Oil Demonstration Project, White River Basin - Colorado

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5140989
This water assessment was undertaken by the U.S. Water Resources Council under authority of the Federal Non-Nuclear Energy Research and Development Act of 1974, as amended. The Act provides that an assessment of water requirements and water supply be made for any non-nuclear energy technology. That assessment concluded that there was an overall supply of ground and surface water in the Upper Colorado River Basin sufficient to accommodate a synfuels production level of nearly 3-million barrels oil equivalent in the White River Basin in Colorado and Utah. Consequently, in order to provide dependable water supplies for synfuels development and other water needs, major reservoirs and other water supply facilities would be required.
