Disposable demineralizer - a radwaste processing alternative

Conference · · Proc. Symp. Waste Manage.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5138957
Disposable demineralizers and filters provide a method by which liquid waste treatment systems can be added or replaced at nuclear power plants. These systems involve minimal capital investment for equipment and facilities to house the system. The systems have demonstrated a high degree of radionuclide removal on a continuous basis and of reliability with minimum operator attendance and maintenance. For most liquid waste streams, the disposable demineralizer/filter system will provide greater reduction in waste volume than other treatment systems. Even though relatively expensive ion exchange resin and filter media are used on a one-time basis, the systems are economical to operate.
