Upgrade F-T liquids to olefins and aromatics. [Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis]

Journal Article · · Hydrocarbon Process.; (United States)

This paper gives some details of the Fischer-Tropsch conversion route from coal to liquid hydrocarbons, particularly to olefins and aromatic compounds. In this system liquid oxygenates are converted to high yields of ethylene and propylene while oils and C/sub 4/-C/sub 8/ olefins provide LPGs and aromatics in high yields. It is significant, in view of the large amount of by-product arising from an integrated synthesis plus ethylene process, that upgrading can be accomplished on crude streams requiring only gross separation schemes. Also significant is the typically low carbon value loss to methane. Flexibility among the various products between light olefins, LPGs and aromatics has also been shown. 8 refs.
