System and method for heat recovery in a combined cycle power plant
This patent describes, in a combined cycle power plant having a gas turbine, a steam turbine, and a heat recovery steam generator, a method of recovering heat from the exhaust gas of the gas turbine in the heat recovery steam generator. It comprises supplying water, splitting the water supplied into first and second streams, directing the first stream to a vessel, directing the second stream to a feedwater heater, transferring heat from the exhaust gas to the second stream in the feedwater heater, directing the second stream after the heating in the feedwater heater to the vessel. The heated water providing a first source of heat input to the vessel, mixing the first and second streams in the vessel, thereby producing heated feedwater; regulating the relative quantities of the first and second streams of the water supplied so as to maintain a predetermined pressure in the vessel; and venting from the vessel gases released from the heated feedwater mixture.
