Fuel rail for bottom and side fed injectors
This patent describes an internal combustion engine fuel rail assembly. It comprises a rail member, which contains a fuel hole via which fuel is made available to electrically operated fuel injectors mounted on the rail member, each of the fuel injectors comprising a fuel inlet, a fuel outlet, and an electrical connector, the fuel inlet being intermediate opposite axial ends of the fuel injector, the fuel outlet being disposed toward one of the axial ends relative to the fuel inlet, and the electrical connector being disposed toward the other of the axial ends relative to the fuel inlet, the rail member comprising transverse through-hole structures that are spaced apart along the length of the rail member and whose own lengths are arranged transverse to the length of the rail member, each of the fuel injectors being disposed in a corresponding one of the through-hole structures such that the injector's inlet is communicated with the fuel hole via an opening between the corresponding through-hole structure and the fuel hole.
