Disproportionation of ethylbenzene: a potential test reaction for acidity of bifunctional zeolite catalysts

Journal Article · · J. Catal.; (United States)

The disproportionation of ethylbenzene to benzene and diethylbenzenes is discussed. Of particular interest is the acidity of the bifunctional zeolite catalysts used. The catalysts are prepared from a mixture of NaX and La(NO/sub 3/)/sub 3/, both with and without platinum. Another reaction product yielded is ethylcyclohexane. The value of the ability to measure the acidity of zeolite catalysts as it applies to the isomerization and hydrocracking of alkanes is also discussed.
