The authors evaluated analysis of labeled fatty acid ([U-{sup 13}C]) by high-precision gas chromatography-combustion isotope ratio mass spectrometry (GCC-IRMS) as a metabolic tracer technique. Enrichment of the {sup 13}C/{sup 12}C range of less than 0.0002 ({approx}13{per_thousand} in {delta}{sub PDB} units) in plasma allows viable biokinetic analysis. 42 refs., 7 figs., 2 tabs.
