The observation by /sup 27/Al MAS NMR of distinct aluminum tetrahedral sites in TPA-ZSM-5 in contrast to Na, H-ZSM-5 is related to the TPA/Al ratio in zeolite TPA-ZSM-5. For TPA-ZSM-5 with a TPA/Al ratio > 1 only one /sup 27/Al resonance is observed at 53.5 ppm. In the case of a TPA/Al ratio < 1 an additional /sup 27/Al resonance is observed at 60.0 ppm, due to hydrated sodium ions needed for the neutralization of AlO/sub 4//sup -/ tetrahedrons not charge compensated by TPA/sup +/. 10 references, 2 figures, 1 table.
