Telemetering wave and current data in real time

Journal Article · · Sea Technol.; (United States)

Methods for gathering real-time data from submerged instruments for the offshore oil industry are discussed. Information about waves and current is important in the design, installation, and operation of offshore platforms. A new acoustic instrument has been developed that provides real-time data collection for undersea oil deposits. Called ''Type 1033'', this system provides the means for telemetering such parameters as wave, current, tide and wind data to a receiving station based on ship or shore. The system allows multiple subsurface moorings form near-surface to 4000m deep to report to a single buoy-mounted host receiver with site-to-shore communications capability.
