Substrate for ceramic superconductor with improved barrier

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5131946
This patent describes a superconductor. It comprises a metal alloy substrate having a plurality of constituent elements, the substrate consisting essentially of a primary constituent element selected from the group consisting of iron, nickel, and combinations thereof, and further an oxide forming constituent element selected from the group consisting of aluminum (Al), silicon (Si), manganese (Mn), magnesium (Mg), zirconium (Zr), beryllium (Be), and combinations thereof, wherein the oxide forming constituent element forms an oxide layer on the surface of the substrate; and a ceramic superconducting material having a plurality of constituent elements including oxygen and copper, the ceramic superconducting material attached to the substrate and covering the oxide layer, the oxide layer substantially inhibiting the interdiffusion of the respective constituent elements between the substrate and the ceramic superconducting material.
