The earth: Problems and perspectives. A physical geology laboratory manual
This manual is divided into five major parts, each relatively independent of the other. The first section deals with the ''materials that make up the earth: minerals and rocks.'' The second section begins with an exercise on geologic time that includes a correlation of stratigraphic sequences across the Colorado Plateau and proceeds to three exercises concerning topographic and geologic maps - the geologist's basic tools. The third section concerns the geologic processes derived from the earth's external source of energy, the sun, while processes arising from the earth's internal energy are the subjects of the fourth section. A simplified working model of plate movements along the western margin of the Pacific basin along with a plate tectonic ''movie'' are included in this section. The fifth, and final, section of the book has two main purposes: the first, to teach students about planetary geology and the relationship of the human race to geology, and the second, to serve as a review of all the preceding chapters.
