Glauber cross sections for excitation of atomic helium by proton impact

Cross sections for the 1 /sup 1/S..-->..n /sup 1/P (n = 2,3,4) excitations of atomic helium by proton impact are calculated in the framework of the Glauber approximation. The calculated cross sections show good agreement with the observed data. Furthermore, the average ratio of Glauber cross sections for 3 /sup 1/P and 4 /sup 1/P excitations at high energies show good agreement with those obtained from other theories and also with the measurements of Hippler and Schartner.
