This paper considers problems which must be overcome to produce long lengths of ductile superconductor wire from the 90K T{sub c} superconducting ceramic material, YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub x}. Attention is focused on the powder-in-tube process where the superconducting powder is placed in a tube which is then formed into wire by conventional wire forming processes. Two major problems are considered, control of the oxygen level and improvement of J{sub c} in the final wire. Some experimental data and ideas for further research are discussed.
