A formula is derived for the production rate of unstable particles that are produced in a thermalized region but whose decay products interact so weakly that they escape without thermalizing. The Bose-Einstein or Fermi-Dirac distribution is found to apply to unstable particles but modified by a Breit-Wigner distribution in the invariant mass. 14 refs.
