Perception and acceptance of risks associated with nuclear reactors

This paper is concerned with public perception and response to the various risks associated with nuclear power. This paper reviews the results, to date, of research on risk perception and acceptance and attempts to show their relevance to problems pertaining to nuclear power generation and nuclear waste management. The author argues that there is need for a serious research effort, aimed at designing risk management processes that lead to trust and mutual respect among opposing parties and aimed at producing effective multi-way communication and constructive problem solving.
