The paper profiles the current status of hazardous-waste thermal destruction in the United States, including facilities and wastes typically handled. The results of extensive EPA-sponsored performance tests are presented for incinerators, industrial boilers, and industrial-process kilns. Other aspects of thermal destruction are also addressed, including waste incinerability ranking methods, emissions of potentially hazardous products of incomplete combustion, and current and future thermal destruction capacity.
