Method and apparatus for detonation of distributed charges

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5119379
This paper describes a method of geophysical exploration wherein aseismic wave is passed through a bore hole so as to sequentially detonate of explosive charges disposed within the bore hole at spaced intervals, each of the charges being provided with an electrically-responsive detonator, and wherein each of the detonators if fired by the discharge of a charged capacitor associated therewith. It comprises: operatively connecting electronic switches to the capacitors so as to control the completion of the respective discharge circuits of the capacitors; preselecting a seismic wave magnitude; causing a seismic wave to successively strike electro-acoustic sensors connected respectively to the switches; comparing the seismic wave magnitude indicated by the sensors with the predetermined magnitude; and generating successive voltage pulses adapted to actuate the switches sequentially and discharge the capacitors when the seismic wave magnitude indicated by the sensors substantially equals the preselected magnitude.
