This paper presents a method to solve transient heat-conduction problems by superimposing solutions of steady-state and transient problems expressed as simultaneous equations. The steady-state heat-conduction problem and the eigenvalue problem equivalent to the simultaneous transient heat-conduction problem are formulated using the finite-element method. Especially the eigenvalue problem equivalent to the simultaneous transient heat- conduction problem is discretized in space by a newly derived variational principle. This method is found to give more accurate solutions than the ordinary finite-element method using the Crank-Nicholson technique.
