The malfunction of auxiliary systems is a major source of unscheduled critical equipment shutdowns. This series of articles will be dedicated to the functional understanding of auxiliary lubrication, sealing and buffer gas systems and how highly reliable auxiliaries can be specified, designed, operated and maintained. It is our aim that the information presented will assist plant management, production and maintenance personnel in the selection, operation and maintenance of auxiliary systems of optimum safety and reliability.
