A method is described for oil recovery from reservoirs having average permeabilities less than 100 md. An aqueous mobility buffer containing an N-sulfohydrocarbon-substituted acrylamide polymer is injected into and displaced through the reservoir. A micellar solution slug is preferably injected ahead of the buffer slug. This polymer has a reasonably high intrinsic viscosity and permits high injection rates. Plugging of the reservoir is minimal. (15 claims)
