Chromatographic studies of vanadium compounds from Boscan crude oil

Journal Article · · Sep. Sci. Technol.; (United States)
For the first time, vanadium nonporphyrins have been fractionated. Using graphite furnace atomic absorption, the signal for vanadium was found to follow the uv absorption of the chromatogram. In addition, a simpler, faster procedure has been devised to isolate a vanadium porphyrin fraction that was more nearly free from both vanadium nonporphyrins and nickel porphyrins. Pyrolysis/gas chromatography with both the flame photometric (sulfur) detector and the flame ionization detector gave evidence for a variety of sulfur species in both the porphyrin and nonporphyrin fractions.
