An ice machine is described comprising a mold, and ice extractor, an evaporator plate and a water supply. The mold comprises sides, a bottom and an open top. The bottom has a cavity therein defined by cavity sides terminating in an opening in the bottom. The cavity sides are tapered downwardly and inwardly converging toward the opening terminating in sharp edges. The evaporator plate is disposed below the opening. The sealing means are between the ice mold and the evaporator plate whereby the evaporator plate forms a closure for the opening in the ice mold. The ice extractor has an open top, an open bottom and side extending downwardly and inwardly terminating in a sharp lower edge. The extractor is adapted to be received in the cavity. The sharp lower edge of the extractor rest on the evaporator plate. Means to supply water to the mold, means to swing the ice extractor from a position in the cavity to an inverted position over an ice receptacle, and a heat sink are provided. The ice mold is supported on the heat sink and the evaporator plate is supported in spaced relation to the heat sink.
