Optically activated switching II

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5111614

Optically activated switches are starting to move from the research stage to development and production, allowing one to pursue previously unattainable applications. This conference covered many aspects of optically activated switches: diagnostics and testing; switch characterization; high-gain and linear GaAs switches; switches made from Si, ZnSe, ZnSe/GaAs heterostructures, CeTe, diamond, and superconductors; surface flashover and breakdown; switch applications; electrical contacts and switch reliability; and the theory and modeling of nonlinear, high-gain switches. The latter two aspects were discussed at length in two evening sessions, which developed into a lively exchange of ideas. Separate abstracts were prepared for 31 papers in this conference.
