Allcorr welding and weldment corrosion resistance

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5110667
The corrosion and mechanical properties of Allcorr are affected by precipitation of coarse secondary phases at grain boundaries occurring during welding or heat treatment at 700 to 1100/sup 0/C. Welding parameters were varied in an attempt to minimize property degradation and develop an acceptable joining technique for the alloy. The flow characteristics of Allcorr allow welding with low heat input, though special care is required to insure full penetration. Low heat input welding preserves the good corrosion resistance of the alloy. A solution heat treatment at 1200/sup 0/C restores maximum corrosion resistance in Allcorr.
