Optimal power flow emulation of interchange brokerage systems using linear programming

Interchange brokering schedules power imports and exports between interconnected utilities to maximize profits for all participating parties and enhances the security of power systems. The data required for interchange brokerage systems is the amount of power available for trading and the system incremental cost. The source of this data can be either from an Economic Dispatch Calculation (EDC) or an Optimal Power Flow (OPF). Traditionally, EDC has been the source for this data. OPF is chosen in this research for it provides a complete analysis of the power system. This paper reports that OPF and interchange brokering are solved using Linear Programming (LP) which is easy to implement and provides a fast solution.
