Nitrogen oxides and their effects on health

The contents of this book were drawn from presentations given at the symposium entitled ''Biological Studies of Environmental Pollutants, Part II. Health Effects of Nitrogen Oxides.'' Chapter 1 is the first of two keynote addresses and provides an overview of the topic through a discussion of the multiplicities of environmetal concerns of interest to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Chapter two, the second keynote address, generally discusses the various factors that should be considered when evaluating potential adverse health effects of the nitrogen oxides. Following the keynote addresses, a section of papers dealing with measurement and monitoring techniques is presented. The last two sections of the book contain a number of papers directed towards a discussion of health effects data obtained from animal experiments and human experience. The former section deals with the effects of nitrogen oxides on experimental animals and contains 10 papers.The last section contains 6 papers and, for the most part, deals with the clinical and epidemiologic aspects of nitrogenous air pollutants.
