Following the spillage of fuel oil from the tanker 'Esso Bernicia' at the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal on 31st December 1978, 633 Tysties were found dead and oiled on the shores of Sullom Voe and Yell Sound. The report describes counts of Tysties made from the shore during a survey of the breeding seabirds of the Yell Sound Islands in June, 1978.
