Late Neogene faults in the Mojave region consist of E-W striking left-lateral faults of the eastern Transverse Ranges (ETR), and the northeast Mojave domain (NEMD) and northwest striking right-lateral faults of the central Mojave domain (CMD). The authors block tectonics model for fault domains required that block rotations is always from the axis of compression with clockwise rotation for left lateral slip and counterclockwise for right lateral slip. The sence and amount of rotation inferred from paleomagnetic data are related to fault slip and to fault spacing. Mojave post-late Miocene paleomagnetic data from 10 separate studies show CW rotation to 40 degrees to 50 degrees in the ETR and the NEMD. These confirm the consistency between the sence of slip and the sense of rotation as predicted by the block rotation model. Paleomagnetic data for the CMD are more variable. A few sites show no rotation and one site yields CW rotation. All other CMD data show CCW rotation from rocks 22Ma to 6Ma of ages. To clarify the mixed results in the CMD paleomagnetic measurements on the young rocks can yield the younger rotation. To this end the authors are obtaining at present paleomagnetic data from well dated post late Miocene rocks in the CMD.
